Call for evidence for the review of Part K (Building Regulations 2010): Protection from falling, collision and impact

Overview

The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) has a duty to keep under review the safety of people in or about buildings and the standard of buildings in England.

As part of this work, we're reviewing Approved Document K (ADK), which provides statutory guidance on how to comply with Part K (Protection from falling, collision and impact) of the Building Regulations 2010.

Following the publication of the Approved Document K: general access and utility stairs report, which examined evidence to support potential changes to guidance, we're seeking views, evidence and practical experience to inform our review of Part K and ADK.

What is Part K?

Part K sets requirements intended to protect people from falling, collision and impact in and around buildings.

ADK provides guidance on topics including:

  • stairs, ladders and ramps
  • guarding and protection from falls
  • vehicle barriers and loading bays
  • glazing, windows and doors

What we're looking for

BSR is looking for views on:

  • Part K (Protection from falling, collision and impact) of schedule 1 to the Building Regulations 2010
  • the guidance in Approved Document K

We are particularly interested in evidence, examples, case studies and practical experience relating to the scope and operation of Part K and ADK, including its diagrams, tables and referenced standards.

Your feedback may inform a programme of work to prioritise, review and make proportionate updates to Part K and ADK where necessary.
